Effective immediately, we are collaborating closely with IT and managed service provider Controlware to help energy facility and grid operators effectively secure their OT environments against cyberattacks, prevent outages, and comply with regulations such as NIS2 and the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG). We are combining our StationGuard attack detection solution with Controlware’s consulting, integration, and operational services. This collaboration provides energy utilities with comprehensive OT security solutions that address cyber and operational risks.
"In OMICRON, we have found a technology partner whose solutions were developed specifically for the OT energy sector. Together, we deliver not just a product, but a comprehensive operational and accountability model for safe switchgear - with 24/7 monitoring, structured escalation procedures, and traceable documentation. This ensures complete transparency in critical grids, reduces response times, and supports compliance with regulatory requirements." - Christopher Gasteier, Business Development Manager OT/ICS, Controlware
Comprehensive OT Security for the Power Grid
Energy companies are facing an increasingly dynamic threat landscape. At the same time, operators of critical infrastructure must comply with ever-stricter legal and regulatory requirements and meet the highest standards for system availability. Against this backdrop, we are partnering with Controlware in a strategic collaboration that combines technological precision with structured operational processes.
Our threat detection platform, StationGuard, monitors network communication in digital switchgear in real time. It detects cyber attacks, unauthorized activities, and misconfigurations, and also identifies functional anomalies, such as command errors or anomalies on the station bus. The alerts are then formatted in a way that is understandable to protection and SCADA engineers and can be integrated into existing SIEM and SOC structures.
Controlware ensures that these insights do not remain isolated but are translated into reliable decision-making and robust processes: Controlware experts conduct OT risk analyses, develop zoning concepts, integrate the solution into existing architectures, and, upon request, take over 24/7 operations - including monitoring, assessment, escalation, and incident response. This creates a comprehensive security and operations model that combines technical detection, organizational measures, and compliance requirements.
The joint offering is rounded out by jointly delivered services ranging from the initial assessment through initial proof-of-value projects to production operations with managed services. These include, among other things, asset and risk analyses, the implementation of intrusion detection systems, the establishment of vulnerability and patch management workflows, and regular compliance reporting. In this way, customers benefit in four key ways:
- Early detection of cyberattacks reduces response times and prevents security incidents from escalating
- By combining cyber and operational monitoring, the risks of production and supply disruptions can be minimized and costly outages avoided
- Regulatory requirements such as the EnWG and NIS2 are reliably implemented through documentable measures, audit support, and monitoring reports
- Outsourcing operational, monitoring, and escalation processes to Controlware relieves the burden on internal teams while simultaneously increasing the level of protection
Substation operators, grid operators, and energy suppliers can now sign up for technical workshops and pilot projects at info@omicroncybersecurity.com and info@controlware.de.
“Controlware brings exactly the integration and operational expertise that operators of critical energy infrastructure need. Together, we combine the strength of StationGuard with professional managed services, thereby creating a level of security that detects attacks early, meets NIS2 requirements, and provides long-term relief for operations teams.” - Andreas Klien, Head of Power Utility Communication, OMICRON
